H. Ross Perot Dead at 89

Texas’ own self-made billionaire and Reform Party presidential candidate H. Ross Perot has died at the age of 89 due to leukemia. The colorful, outspoken maverick in business and politics, who rose from a childhood of Depression-era poverty to wealth and power, died early Tuesday at his home in Dallas surrounded by his devoted family. Perot’s 19% of the popular vote in 1992 still stands among the best showings by an independent presidential candidate in the past century. Once a salesman for IBM, he founded Electronic Data Systems which helped companies manage their computer networks.
