Tarleton Receives $1.5M For Nursing Scholarships

Retired Air Force Col. Charles Leigon decided years ago that he wanted his legacy to include helping Tarleton State University nursing students. In fact, he gifted the third-largest cash donation in university history. Final steps were taken in early December when Tarleton received $1.5 million from Col. Leigon’s estate to make that legacy a reality. This is in addition to property donations, valued around $500,000, made in concert with the 40 th  anniversary of Tarleton’s nursing program in 2016.

The information provided by Erath County shows there were 38 new positive tests returned in the previous 24 hours. 20 of them from Stephenville residents, 14 from rural Erath County and four from Dublin. The good news in the report is that the number of people who are considered to have active coronavirus in the county went down. It now stands at 318.

Junior Livestock Show This Week

Other big news, the Erath County Junior Livestock show is happening this week at the show barn at 2157 FM 205 in Stephenville. Due to COVID-19 and a large increase in the number of entries, organizers have modified the show schedule this year. You can find all those details on the junior livestock show’s website. Each species will take their round in the show ring and owners will take their animal home as soon as their respective show is over. Also, no livestock will walk through the sale ring for the Saturday night sale of champions auction. Only those showing the animals and the ribbons each won will be on hand. Dairy heifers will remain on the show grounds for potential buyers to observe.
