Local Ceremony To Honor Peace Officers

Today is recognized as Peace Officers Memorial Day and a local ceremony will take place this morning. A flag at the Erath County Annex Building will be lowed to half staff, which will be followed by a moment of silence and a prayer. Taps will be played in honor of law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Five law enforcement officers in Erath County have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The last was Tarleton State University Patrolman WA Hall, who suffered a fatal heart attack at the age of 56 after chasing down suspects on foot. He died in December of 1978. Before that, it’s been since 1897 since an Erath County law enforcement officer has died in the line of duty.
