A $2.1 million federal grant will allow Tarleton State University to continue to assist potential first-generation college students from high schools in Stephenville and throughout the area, thanks to the U.S. Department of Education. The DOE’s Upward Bound projects provide tutoring, academic counseling, financial guidance and other services to help students complete high school and enroll in and graduate from college or other institutions of higher learning. Jenny Watts, director of Tarleton’s Upward Bound program, said it’s a win-win for Tarleton and the 95 students selected. Upward Bound at Tarleton has helped hundreds of area high school students for 33 years to pursue a post-secondary education. To learn more, go to; tarleton.edu/upwardbound.
