Huckabay coach Charles Hearne will be forever enshrined in the Hall of Fame, but he is quick to remind folks that he never scored a point, grabbed a rebound or made an assist on the way to winning nearly 1,000 basketball games. Hearne was recently inducted into the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame, which honored him for successful stints at Huckabay and Graford. Among many other highlights, Hearne guided the Huckabay Indians to the Class B boys state championship in 1974. Hearne’s record was 995-333 in 30 seasons. He was one of eight people inducted in a ceremony held May 20 at the El Tropicano Hotel in San Antonio.
