Brownwood teachers are getting a raise. The School Board of Trustees approved the pay raises for district teachers Monday. The 2.5 percent increase will be applied to their salaries beginning in the fall.
The raise average is over $1100 per teacher and the school hopes it will attract recent college graduates to apply for their job openings, according to Brownwood Superintendent Dr. Joe Young.
The bill to repeal the statute that allowed the Brown County attorney’s controversial pre-trial diversion donation program has been killed in the legislature. The House’s Civil and Jurisprudence Committee unanimously approved HB 2273 on April 11, moving it to the Calendars Committee to schedule a hearing before the full House. But a spokesman for State Rep. Mike Lang, the bill’s author, said the bill is now, inexplicably, dead.
